5th Grade Patriotic Art

5th Grade Patriotic Art

These beauties were created in 2 class periods.

On Day 1:
We discussed what symbolic images an artist could use to represent the United States of America.
Students then drew eagles and flags using pencil on black paper.
(I had many printed photos of eagles to use for reference.) We also discussed enlarging the SCALE.
Finally, we drew over the pencil lines with glue and put on the rack to dry. (This step could honestly be skipped, and if you did skip this step, it could easily fit into one (1 hour) class period)

On Day 2:
Students added oil pastels to their drawings. We also added some highlights and shadows in some areas.

This could also be done with chalk pastels!! :-D
ENJOY!
